Wide Area Building Search Training

Los Fresnos firefighters were hard at work conducting Wide Area Building Search (WABS) training.

​What is WABS Training?

​WABS is a specialized, systematic technique used to efficiently search large, complex, or compromised structures—think commercial buildings, warehouses, or areas affected by a major collapse.

​During this session, crews practiced:

• ​Large-Scale Navigation: Using ropes and specialized tools to maintain orientation and team integrity deep within a simulated structure.

• ​Systematic Searching: Deploying specific search patterns to ensure every area is covered and marked.

• ​Communication Drills: Perfecting the essential radio traffic and verbal cues needed to coordinate multiple teams over a wide area.

​This continuous, realistic training ensures that when the call comes, your Los Fresnos Fire Department is ready to execute a safe and effective rescue.
